Brewer Series: Brew Day

Image
On May 2, Memphis Brewers Association invited us to join them at Crosstown Brewing for a brew day. Shane and the Crosstown crew brewed a wort with 2-row malt, which the homebrewers then used as a base to brew their own beer, on site, in the loading dock area. Planned beer styles by the homebrewers included everything from a hoppy red ale to a graff (beer/cider hybrid). As usual, there was a very good beer share at the end of the brew day. Highlights include Phase Three Kastalia, 2018 Crosstown BORIS, Soul & Spirits Dead Leaves & Dirty Coke (brewed for GABF), Xul-Aid Blue Raspberry, and Tree House Focus on the Dark. Brewer Series: Hampline

Image
This time, the Brewer Series saw us visiting Hampline Brewing on April 18. We had an amazing turnout, practically filling every seat in the taproom. A total of 40 beers were shared, as you'll see in the kill shot below. We even had a couple from Selmer, TN and a gentleman visiting all the way from Bozeman, Montana, who is the owner of Shine Beer Sanctuary located in Bozeman. During the event, General Manager Brielle Caporale gave us a tour of the brewing area and talked about how Hampline Brewing got started. Be sure to join us at Crosstown Brewing on May 2 at 9:00 AM for a very special version of the Brewer Series. The Memphis Homebrewers Association has invited us to join them in brewing a beer at Crosstown, so come learn about and get hands-on with the brewing process. Brewer Series: Boscos

Image
On March 14, the Brewer Series happened at Boscos, the very first location in Memphis to brew beer, which opened on December 26, 1992. Head brewer, Tyler Brown, made a cask beer just for us. He filled the cask with Noir IPA , and "dry hopped" it with liquid Amarillo terpenes, resulting in a very vibrant hop aroma. President Frank was given the honor of tapping the cask by hammering the spout into it. He then proudly raised the hammer (rubber mallet) after successfully tapping the cask. After that, Tyler began pouring from the cask and handing it out to us. While we were all enjoying the cask beer, Tyler gave everyone a tour of the brewing area, in groups of five or so people at a time. After touring was finished, the beer share began. A few highlights included Side Project sours, Fonta Flora barrel-aged stout and barleywine, Tree House IPAs, and a Stone Vertical Epic from 12/12/12. Check out the video and more photos below. Christmas Party at MFS

Image
On December 20, Memphis Beer Drinkers hosted the Christmas beer share at MFS Brewing. As seen in the photo above, it was a great turn out, including friends from Flyway Brewing. In the spirit of the season, nearly 50 beers were shared among the group. It was a great way to wind down a very good year of MBD events. Before meeting at MFS, President Frank joined Andy Ashby and Tyler Brown (see first photo below) at the Memphis Made taproom for the release of a holiday cask ale , a collaboration between Memphis Made and Boscos. The beer's name is Ice Storm of '94. If you lived in the Memphis area at that time, you will immediately recognize the reference. Speaking of Boscos, join us for our Brewer Series event at Boscos with Tyler (head brewer) on March 14 at 2:00 PM. We'll see you there!
